Jennifer Marchant is an artist and designer working across scales and materials — from exploratory, iterative drawings to integrated artwork for the built environment. Her work for public spaces draws on meticulous research, an eye for scale and context and a viscerally felt sense of fit. In the making, Marchant engages curiosity in the considered repetition of form, line and fold, and in the contrast of shadow and light, refinement and constraint.

Leading a respected design agency early in her professional life had its part in shaping Marchant’s creative capacity. Confidence, detail, certainty, precision — markers of that work seem seeded deep in her approach.

Marchant specialises in artwork for the built environment and has completed commissions in Brisbane, Canberra and Newcastle, working in dialogue with art consultants and fabricators to model, test and resolve the work, ahead of production and installation. As commissioned work evolves, Marchant brings experience and clarity to the conversation with partners, clients and with the technical experts required to deliver.

Based in a creative, semi-rural community north of Brisbane, Marchant works from a private, flexible studio she designed herself. The studio offers space to develop new work freely, from concept to drawing and modelling, following visual and material lines of inquiry that thread through thinking and making. 

Marchant’s work has been published in Australia and internationally. Her artwork, drawings and objects have been exhibited at OneSpace, QUT Art Museum and State Library of Queensland in Brisbane.
